The Best Place / The worst place out this week in bookstores. For this occasion, I treated myself to a pure pleasure to interview Harvey Chan, the illustrator of our album tumble . True to himself, Philip responds with spins and somersaults, but never stumble.

What is the best place for you?
Nestled in a pile of pillows with a book in hand and biscuits close.


What is the worst place for you?
nose glued to the window of the pastry chef who has just closed.

What is your best place to draw?
To my drawing table in my studio, surrounded by my color pots of my pencils and my brushes.

What is your worst place to draw?
Sitting on a glacier in the middle of a gang of penguins without drawing.

Have you ever peed on a nest of ants (like the little monster album)?
Yes, when I was little and they all pulled out their umbrellas.

Have you ever eaten at a restaurant with an elephant (like the little monster album)?
Yes, but it was not a real elephant, it was with my brother who eats like an elephant.

Do you prefer playing with the little monster girl or boy with the monster "Best place / Worst place?
I do not completely equal, girl or boy, as long as it is a monster.

Is what you are funny in real life or only in your illustrations?
I think to make funny drawings funny, it must be pretty funny in life.

Why are you an illustrator?
I was so average in school, apart from drawing, I became an illustrator.

Are you documentation before you draw?
Never. I watch a lot and the rest I invented.

Where did you get your inspiration?
Find ideas, it has always been what I prefer. I'll dip into my head.

How would you describe your technique for the album "The Best Place / The worst place?
A mixture of water colors and acrylic with a black marker to outline.

How would you describe your style as an illustrator?
I have several styles that vary according to the stories and the age group of readers.

Do you sometimes find that your designs not beautiful?
Not often, but when it happens, I rip and try again.

Is that you sometimes find your perfect design?
A design is never perfect, but it is often what makes it good. My next drawing must necessarily be the best.
